The biggest mistake most people make when soldering is failing to get the interior of the fitting and the exterior of the pipe clean and shiny. Polish these surfaces with a fine emery clot until bright. When soldering, never heat the pipe, but instead heat the fitting.   • If you are using a plunger, trying to unblock a blocked sink, cover up the overflow holes with a damp cloth. It helps build up the pressure.
  • Remember to use PTFE tape when fixing a leak or making joints. The tape should be wrapped around the thread of the pipe. Clockwise when viewed from the end of pipe.
  • If the water pressure is very poor in your shower it may be due to lime-scale build up. If you live in a hard water area you should clean your shower heads every 3 months or so

 

A higher than normal water bill might be your first indication of a leaking pipe. When you suspect a leak, check the fixtures first to make sure all the faucets are tightly closed. Go to the water meter, If the dial is moving, you're losing water somewhere.
